I believe in collaborative and relational approaches to counselling and these concepts are the foundation of my work. I also believe that our own resiliency can help us to overcome current struggles. As a result, strengths-based and positive psychology practices are inherent to my philosophy. At the first meeting, we will work together to develop a counselling plan that is best for your unique circumstances.
I tend to use person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, narrative, as well as dialectical behavioural approaches. I have received training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and EMDIR therapy (EMDRIA approved training) and can offer these as options to working through trauma-related impacts. My approach may be described as integrative in nature and this provides flexibility to meet unique counselling needs. I also think it is important to understand current struggles from a holistic perspective acknowledging cultural and gender diversity and other intersecting factors. It will be important to attend to therapeutic lifestyle factors to increase effectiveness and to support lasting change.
My current practice includes working with adults struggling with diverse interpersonal, mental health, emotional and/or behavioural concerns. This includes difficulties related to relationships, interpersonal challenges, depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, adjustment, occupational and other stress-related problems.
